Are the Scales Not Budging?
Many people have difficulties when it comes to losing weight. They work out diligently and they diet religiously, but just can’t seem to get the results they want. And their scales just aren’t budging. They look at their friends and wonder why it seems to be so easy for them. If you’re one of those people who think losing weight is very hard, then you’re among the more than 70% of all people who do.
Your attitude about weight loss can be a large factor in your success. If you’re going to drop those extra pounds you need self-discipline and a good attitude toward reaching your goals. Motivation is a very important key to losing weight. If you just want to lose a few pounds for a special occasion and then go back to your old eating habits, then you probable won’t be successful in losing weight.
You must remember that true weight loss doesn’t happen overnight. So staying motivated may be difficult when the results don’t seem to be coming right away. It takes time and effort, and a change in your lifestyle to effect real change. Good habits need to replace your old ones and become a new way of living for you. Drinking and smoking should cease if it’s at all possible. And you should get plenty of rest if you’ve been one who tends to go without it.
It’s your eating habits that can be the real culprits. And you should throw out all the junk food that used to stay in your fridge. And when you exercise, you need to burn more calories than you take in. Your fitness routine should include healthy eating choices.
Change Your Eating & Exercise Habits
Your exercise habits will also have a huge effect on your success. Your workouts should be done consistently without exceptions. A regular schedule should be maintained and then over time you’ll begin to see some progress.
Many people try to workout during times of emotional stress. This is not a good time. They may lose a loved one, or be going through a divorce, and feel that working out may help to take their mind off it. It’s just hard to remain focused during these kinds of trying times.
There Are Many Reasons for Weight Gain
Weight gain is caused by taking in more calories than we burn off. But some of the reasons we are overweight can be caused by genetics, age, and other health conditions. Sometimes we have to take a closer look at why we’re overweight. A lot of people get more round when they reach the age of 40 because their metabolism slows down. And today’s society has many people with sedentary lifestyles. Hormonal changes can also contribute to weight gain.
Medical conditions like diabetes, bulimia, and some sleeping disorders can also cause people to be overweight. There are certain medications that will add to the problem as well. Some of these are cancer therapy drugs, blood pressure medicine, and diabetic medications. If you have a medical condition that makes it impossible to control your weight by diet and exercise, then talk with your physician about what you can do to just keep the weight you have now instead of trimming down. You don’t want to gain any more, but maintain the way you are.
